Your Wellness Journey Begins Here.

About Me

Welcome! I’m Jess.

I’m a wellness practitioner and certified Yoga instructor living in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Having begun my Yoga journey over 15 years ago, I hold a deep reverence for the practice. From anxiety to grief, to the challenges of everyday life, Yoga has been my number one tool to help my find a sense of balance in this crazy world.

As my Yoga practiced deepened over the years, so too did my desire to share these tools with others! I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a Yoga instructor in 2020 through a 200 hour Teacher Training program. Graduating in spring of 2021, I began teaching in local studios and slowly gained the confidence and clarity to launch Be Well With Jess.

About Yoga

Yoga is an integrated practice of mind, body, and soul alignment originating in India over 5,000 years ago. Between it’s ancient history and the way in which Yoga has been marketed and modernized in the Western world, it is easy to understand why there are often misconceptions about the practice.

So what is yoga?

At its roots, Yoga is a practice that aims to “yoke” or join a person’s individual consciousness with a higher or Universal consciousness, otherwise known as enlightenment. Through the tools of meditation, breathwork and yoga poses, it works to bring the mind, body, and spirit into harmony to better achieve this goal.

Is Yoga a religious practice?

While Yoga certainly contains influences of the culture and religion is was created in, Yoga is not a religious practice. It can be safely practiced in combination with any religion or stand on it’s own as a practice of mind, body, and spiritual connection.

Do I need to be flexible to practice yoga?

Absolutely not! While it’s common in Yoga marketing to see images of people twisting their bodies into incomprehensible shapes, flexibility is not a prerequisite of Yoga. Yoga is not about trying to obtain a certain image or shape, it’s about listening to your body and starting where you’re at. Through modifications of postures and the use of props, it is possible for every-body to experience the benefits of yoga.
